Discovery tour: Fully clothed, fashion and art
Date: 2nd Feb 08
Location: Manchester Art Gallery, Time: 15:00 - 15:45
From a finely embroidered tunic to beautiful full skirts this tour explores fashion through the ages, as depicted in paintings at Manchester Art Gallery. Explore how artists have captured the cut of a garment or the creases in a skirt in paint. Tour led by a trained guide from the Friends of Manchester City Galleries.

Treasures of Central Library

Location: Central Library
Caricature: the art of satire
Have a chuckle at our selection of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian prints and drawings. This display includes works by Rowlandson, Gillray, and Cruickshank, plus some original cartoons drawn for local papers a hundred years ago. Watch out for a related event in March.

Manchester Chinese New Year 2008
Date: 10th Feb 08
Location: Albert Square and Chinatown
Time: 12:30 - 18:00
Manchester welcomes the year of the rat with a glittering array of festivities including Dragon and Lion Dances, Kung Fu demonstrations, folk dance performances and stalls and workshops.
In time-honoured fashion, the spectacular Golden Dragon Parade leaves Albert Square at 12.30pm (approx) and winds its way towards Chinatown. Around the streets of Chinatown, there will be special stalls and fairground rides, plus the chance to sample the delights of the surrounding restaurants and oriental shops. The official celebrations end with a stunning firework finale at 6pm (approx).
